Anna Magnani, ti amo!

She soon became established as a star, although she lacked the conventional beauty and glamour often associated with the term. Slightly plump and rather short in stature with a face framed by unkempt raven hair and eyes encircled by deep, dark shadows, she smouldered with seething earthiness and volcanic temperament.
Magnani once said: "Women like me can only submit to men capable of dominating them, and I have never found anyone capable of dominating me."

De Sica had called her laugh, "loud, overwhelming, and tragic".

Wikipedia tells me she was also in 'Rome Open City!' I'd like to see that again (been forever), as well as this early Pasolini that I haven't before. I love the street lamps behind her over wrought/beautiful mouth.
